The Grappling Club Brisbane

No Gi Jiu Jitsu, Submission Grappling, Wrestling

10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is a No Gi Jiu Jitsu, Submission Grappling and Wrestling Academy.

Gym Etiquette

This is the most important thing that you will need to observe before walking into The Grappling Club/10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Brisbane. These are not negotiable  they keep us all safe, happy and healthy.

1. Leave your ego at the door

This is the biggest issue in all academy's. You’re new and want to prove yourself with all the students? That kind of thinking will not go down well with the Team. We are here to train, we all have jobs, families and lives outside the gym. If you feel the need to prove yourself and be overly aggressive and are unsafe in your application of techniques your membership will be terminated.

2. Respect the elders in the room

Those of higher rank understand that you are new and will show compassion as long as you show respect. They will be the ones who will take care of you and help you out when needed.

No talking when instructions are given, it’s just plain rude. Your conversation can wait as you're not only wasting your own time, but the time of those around you. Inform the instructor BEFORE class commences if you need to leave early, we understand if you have other commitments and need to leave early but always inform the instructor BEFORE class begins.

3. Show compassion to those below you

You won’t always be ‘the new guy’ in the room. There will come a day when ‘the new guys’ come to you. When someone comes to you with a question and you don’t know the answer, always direct them to a higher ranked belt.

4. Learn the Warm Up Series

The Grappling Club/10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Brisbane follows the 10th Planet Jiu jitsu System.  It is technical and very detailed and a great place to start is mastering the warm up series.   Studying them on line and apply yourself in class to grasp this series as soon as possible.

5. Maintain proper hygiene

Shower before training and always wear fresh clean training gear

  1. Use deodorant
  2. Ensure your finger nails and toe nails are trimmed to minimise scratches and infections
  3. Make sure any wounds are properly covered and or strapped
  4. Remove all jewellery and make-up prior to class
  5. No shoe's on the mats
  6. No food on the mats
  7. Wear the appropriate training gear to classes, no zips, buttons, pockets or loose clothing.
  8. If you have an infection, rash or are generally unwell do not train.

6. Social media

You may not post any material online that is acquired at training unless authorized by the Coach.

When posting on social media in regards to training, be respectful to the Club and your teammates and coaches.

7. Representing the school

When competing you automatically represent the school that you train at.  Make sure that you treat all other competitors and coaches with respect.

You must also ensure that you are wearing the team uniform for all competitions and events.

8. Rash guards & Ranks

The Grappling Club/10th Planet Brisbane is exclusively a No Gi Jiu Jitsu / Wrestling Club and as a result belts are not worn.  You must continue to display your rank via either your rash guard or a patch on your training shorts/gi pants. If you are from another jiu-jitsu system, you are welcome to display your rank colour. If you are from another fighting style, you must wear a white 10th Planet rash guard as you are a beginner in our system.

Other rash guards, shorts, grappling tights can be worn, however, your rank must be easy to be determined at all times.
