getting started
-
Absolutely normal! Most of our members started here with zero experience, and most are quite nervous the first time they come in.
Our Fundamentals classes focus on learning the fundamentals step by step in a relaxed and supportive environment.
No need to be athletic or flexible - just show up and we’ll guide you through it. -
Wear anything that is:
Comfortable to move around in
Doesn’t have zippers or buttons (they can damage our mats)
Most people start in a T shirt and shorts or leggings, and if they continue in the sport often later purchase specific training gear.
What to bring:
Water bottle (we also have water and powerade available)
Shoes (when you are not on the mats training, you have to wear shoes - slides or thongs are easiest)
Towel if you would like to shower after class
-
A typical class will include:
Warm up
Watching the Coach demonstrate the technique step by step
Practicing the technique with a partner
Optional live positional sparing (2 minute rounds from set positions with set objectives)
-
Of course!
We offer a free trial for this purpose so you can experience the training environment and meet some of the team before committing to anything.
-
Jiujitsu is a contact sport and as such hygiene is very important.
If you work in a physical job, or have gone to the gym or are just sweaty from the day - please shower before coming to classes. You are welcome to use our on site shower before classes also.
Nails should not be too long - we don’t want to scratch our training partners
-
Try to arrive at least 5 minutes before a class starts.
miscellaneous
-
Yes. We both have members from other gyms coming to train with us as well as our own members going to other gyms to cross train.
The more we all train, and the greater the diversity in training partners we have - the better we all get.
-
No. Many members train as a hobby for fitness, learning and fun.
-
Not yet but we are hoping to add them in the near future!
